Work Design Group
A peer network for leaders reimagining how work gets done
AI is reshaping work faster than traditional job architectures can keep up. In response, many member companies are creating dedicated Work Design roles — sometimes called Future of Work or Work Transformation. At members' request, we're forming a Work Design Group to bring these leaders together and help define this emerging role, including its responsibility for sensing adoption, tracking shifting context, measuring impact, and navigating technology change.
What Is Work Design?
Work Design is the process of organizing tasks, relationships, and responsibilities in a job to meet company goals. It examines how, where, and when work is done so roles are both productive and fulfilling for the people who do them.
At large firms, Work Design leaders typically:
- Deconstruct jobs into tasks and skills to determine what should be automated, augmented, redeployed, or redesigned
- Rethink how work flows across teams, functions, and — increasingly — human–AI agent partnerships
- Build skills-based approaches to talent and workforce planning, in partnership with Strategy, HR, and the business
- Evolve the HR operating model to create greater value for the business
Why It Matters
Companies that address this shift deliberately — with a clear owner, mandate, and method — are better positioned to innovate, redeploy talent, drive performance, and prepare their people for what's next.
Those that don't often find the change happening to them rather than through them.
